Outside Ideas to install 26 landscaped ‘pockets’ along the 4km stretch of roadway for the high-profile Torrens Road to River Torrens project (T2T) between Ashwin Parade, Torrensville, and Pym Street, Croydon Park.
The design incorporated a range of recreational spaces and new facilities for the local community to enjoy. A fundamental objective of the T2T Alliance was to increase the existing biodiversity of the area pre- construction by 20%, resulting in more green spaces and more mature trees than before the demolition work began. Sourced from local nurseries, the plant list for this project included more than 800 trees and approximately 50,000 plants.
Key features of Outside Ideas’ scope of works are William Street Park (designed and constructed in collaboration with the Croydon community and including urban furniture manufactured using reclaimed materials from the demolition phase of the project), Jervois Avenue Park (featuring new gym equipment and a fenced dog park), stormwater detention basins, gabion walling, in situ concrete walling, fencing and grassed median strips on Port Road near Queen Street.
The T2T landscaping commenced in October 2018 and was completed in June 2019. Outside Ideas worked closely with the client to overcome design challenges and to deliver a value for money outcome without compromising the design intent and community expectations.
