Outside Ideas was awarded the Dover Street Reserve Upgrade by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.
The upgrade is a significant place-making reserve adjacent to the Adelaide Victory Football Club. The reserve acts as a warm-up area for the club, as well as provides a plaza and facilities on match days as well as a substantial play space and community facility. The area is prone to flooding, maintains overland flows, and acts as a detention basin and storage during major weather events.
The existing 14,000m2 site was contaminated with high-level asbestos material. Prior to construction it was relatively flat, and so to establish the basin over 40,000 tonnes of bulk earthworks was required. This involved a detailed bulk earthworks methodology and planning to identify, separate and dispose of the material at the correct contaminant levels.
Once the bulk earthworks were completed and the site remediated, significant stormwater, rockwork and insitu structural concrete retaining walls were constructed to establish the basin and ensure it was operational during construction and leading into winter.
The project incorporates a fitness loop, furniture and fitness equipment around the basin, 8,000 square metres of irrigated instant turf ‘kick-about’ area in the basin, playground, nature play, water play and swales, sports court with skateable elements, community plaza, shelters and BBQs.
