In 2020, Outside Ideas was awarded the waterproofing, concreting, mortar laid paving, drainage, landscaping and architectural metalworks works for the 11 Waymouth Street project.

This project formed part of the refurbishment of the 11 Waymouth Street building and was to activate the external area in between the new GPO Building, GPO Hotel and Electra House with a new public realm. The upgrade provided opportunities to multiple businesses to take the opportunity to be apart of events in the space with plug and play services placed in strategic locations around the site.

The project included demolition of the existing waterproofing membrane, while taking into consideration the basement car park and protection of the existing structural slab. We also provided a new waterproofing membrane along with new mortar laid paving. We constructed custom stone cladded walls with planter beds, timber seats and custom upholstered UV stable back rests.

The main feature of the project is the Jamie Durie-designed steel ‘Super Trees’ which were fabricated off site, delivered and installed in a tight workspace. We coordinated the delivery and installation of the trees along with construction of the footings and integration of the electrical and landscaping works.

This project really demonstrated our minimal need for subcontractors and ability to coordinate works with other trades engaged by our client.
