Outside Ideas has delivered three separate packages of work at Karen Rolton Oval, the most recent being the East Terrace Works in 2026 for SACA.

Karen Rolton Oval is a first-class cricket and football precinct second to Adelaide Oval. Our first contract from SACA in 2017 included of over 4,000m of sub-surface drainage and a complex irrigation system which serviced the wicket and oval separately.

The centre wicket was constructed with montmorillonite black cracking clay and the 9,000 tonnes of outfield media fill was a specialised oval soil mix. The 300mm deep profile outfield was compacted and laser graded to finished levels. We laid over 16,000m2 of Santa Ana maxi rolls with our in-house maxi roll installer. Hand rolls were required for the cricket wicket turf, which was a washed Sant Ana.

Being such a high-profile project, Outside Ides ensured there was extensive collaboration with SACA to ensure a first-class playing surface was constructed by Outside Ideas. The facility is currently used for most Sheffield Shield matches and the women’s T20 matches during the cricket season.

Our second contract was awarded by Kennett in 2018 to deliver the landscaping works to the Western side of Karen Rolton Oval, directly in front of Karen Rolton Pavilion. This was the third project awarded to Outside Ideas within the Park 25 precinct.

The scope included soft landscaping and irrigation to the new precast concrete terraces. Outside Ideas coordinated works with the precast concrete contractor, services, and civil trades. We also provided a design and construct solution for the irrigation that tied into the newly landscaped surrounds we were already delivering for the City of Adelaide.
