In March 2021, Outside Ideas began work alongside Mossop Construction + Interiors on the $16.8 million redevelopment of the Monarto Safari Park Visitor Centre.
The scope of work included complex structural concrete, detailed excavation, and external pavement work, all requiring an innovative approach to achieve the complex design detail. The Visitor Centre building is designed as two separate ribbon-like structures and built from solid rammed earth walls and Corten steel cladding. Outside Ideas worked closely with the architects, engineers, and trades to produce structurally sound foundations and architectural features for the new Centre.
Outside Ideas delivered the suspended concrete slabs, as well as the concrete columns that were poured in situ as a feature whilst also providing structural support to the second storey slabs. We used BONDEK technology to secure the suspended concrete, while self-performing the formwork and steel fixing. The polished curved concrete elements demanded a high level of attention to detail and skill from our concrete team. Outside Ideas also completed a circular courtyard in the centre of the development, with an inclined amphitheatre built from exposed aggregate concrete with an acid washed finish.
