Having previously completed work on nearly every correctional facility in the state, Outside Ideas has a thorough understanding of the design challenges and risks of working in a high security environment.

Yatala Labour Prison (YLP) is South Australia’s metropolitan induction and reception prison, accommodating low, medium, and high security prisoners. Following our successful delivery of the initial structural concrete package at Yatala Labour Prison, Outside Ideas was awarded the landscaping package as part of the correctional facility’s $149 million redevelopment.

Outside Ideas delivered all structural concreting works for four new buildings on site, including 1,500 metres of security fencing, 11,000 cubic metres of concrete supplied and poured, 700 tonnes of reinforcement supplied and installed, and 250 metres of in situ concrete retaining walls. Externally, we installed 7,000 tonnes of topsoil, 10,000 square metres of turf, 10,000 plants, as well as acrylic sports courts with rubber soft fall fitness areas.

Outside Ideas was able to use our knowledge of relevant previous projects to provide considerable program and coordination support to the project team. By delivering all three capabilities (civil works, concreting and landscaping) in house, we were able to provide time and cost benefits to the clients that would have otherwise not been met.
