The City of Adelaide awarded Outside Ideas the Morphett Street Renewal project in April 2023. The project comprised of two different sites: Waymouth Street to Franklin Street, and Gouger Street to Wright Street, with both areas of work being delivered simultaneously over a 3-month program.

Complex stormwater works were undertaken to the Franklin Street intersection, requiring connection to the existing live network and working around numerous live services, including 66KV high voltage electrical. To manage and maintain live traffic and pedestrian movements, these works were undertaken at night.

Both portions of the project included demolition and replacement of the existing kerbs and asphalt footpaths, new irrigation and softscapes, as well as traffic signal pole relocations. Over 130 services pits of various sizes owned by 11 different service providers were adjusted within the footpath and roadways. During the delivery of these works, vehicle and pedestrian movements were maintained on all footpaths, driveways, and businesses throughout.

The project scope also included the reconstruction of the existing roadways through the profiling and placement of new asphalt of various profile layers whilst managing contaminated material beneath.

The renewal was completed during winter and even with significant weather disruption, the project was delivered one month ahead of schedule and on budget at the end of June 2023.
