In 2017, Outside Ideas was awarded stage two of the Hindley Street West Streetscape project, as an extension of stage one works completed in front of the UniSA campus in 2013.

The design involved creating a narrower roadway with wider footpaths and more trees and plants. The scope for Outside Ideas was to demolish all existing surfaces and services, including lighting. Granite pavers were laid in feature areas on a reinforced concrete slab, street furniture was installed with feature lighting to encourage people into the street, with Strata Vault tree pits to encourage the growth of trees and plants.

Outside Ideas delivered on a commitment made to council that Hindley Street would only be closed for one night, staging the project in two parts to ensure one side of the road could stay open to traffic.

The job faced heavy scrutiny from key stakeholders and the community, following media negativity surrounding stage one, however our collaborative approach with council and stakeholders ensured this second stage had a positive public relations outcome.
