George Whittle Reserve was closed between January and July 2019 for a complete makeover. Outside Ideas was appointed by the City of Prospect to redevelop the park into a multi-use public space designed by JPE Design Studio. The new facilities include a concrete skate park, mixed-use asphalt court, custom playground equipment, urban furniture, fencing and public amenities.
The existing playground and skate park were demolished to make way for the new facilities. The Outside Ideas Hydrovac came in handy early on, enabling soil to be gently removed from around the roots of existing trees. Contaminated materials uncovered from the old original rail yard site were tracked, safely relocated and secured underground, saving time and money on this project.
Skate park specialists Convic were brought in from Melbourne to assist in the construction of the new park. New stormwater, irrigation, lighting and softscape were also installed as part of the upgrade. Outside Ideas’ construction program included weekend and shift work in order to complete additional items added to the scope of works whilst still meeting the project deadline.
